US astronaut Sian Proctor emphasized that space exploration is not merely about reaching new frontiers but also about uncovering solutions for sustainable living on Earth. Speaking at the 77th International Astronautical Congress in Antalya, Proctor, who piloted SpaceX’s Inspiration4 mission, shared how her experience in orbit transformed her view of the planet.

Proctor, a poet and artist, highlighted a poignant moment of her journey when she witnessed “Earthlight,” the planet’s distinctive light signature, which symbolizes Earth’s vitality. She noted that future missions to the Moon and Mars will necessitate improved management of resources like food, water, energy, and waste. The innovations derived from these extraterrestrial challenges could directly benefit life on Earth.

“We go to space for here, for Earth,” Proctor stated, underscoring the relevance of space solutions in addressing terrestrial issues. She encouraged young aspiring astronauts to explore their unique talents and passions as a means of inspiring themselves and others.

Moreover, Proctor praised Türkiye for its role in convening global space experts, highlighting its strategic location that fosters collaboration and allows diverse groups to “find their place in space.”
