Pikachu’s Cosmic Adventure: A Plushie Goes to Space
Pikachu, the beloved face of the Pokémon franchise, recently made headlines by hitching a ride to the International Space Station (ISS) as part of a European Space Agency mission. Accompanying French astronaut Sophie Adenot, this plush version of Pikachu was outfitted with a custom ESA uniform, complete with a covering for his tail.
In a video tour of the ISS, Adenot provided commentary as Pikachu floated through various sections, including the recycled drinking water dispenser and the crew quarters, where he appeared ready for a nap. This trip marks a unique milestone, as Pikachu is the first Pokémon to serve as a zero-gravity indicator, a common sight in space travel that often involves plush companions demonstrating the zero-G environment.
As part of ongoing World Space Week celebrations, Pokémon Center Online is offering exclusive Pokémon/ESA crossover merchandise, including special astronaut Pikachu plushies. Pikachu will return to Earth, but he continues to serve as an ambassador for the European Space Agency.
