Renault presents new electric car concept for the E-Space family at the Paris Motor Show.

Renault is reviving its iconic Espace family car with the new E-Space Concept, set to debut at the Paris Motor Show on October 12. This concept aims to reflect modern family needs and a more spacious, tech-driven interior, reminiscent of its original 1984 predecessor.

The name change emphasizes Renault’s electrified technology (E-Tech) while retaining the essence of “space,” which signifies a roomy interior—an homage to the original. At 4,700mm long, the E-Space is notably larger than the original Espace, featuring striking design elements like U-shaped light strips and an illuminated logo.

While the new concept diverges in appearance from its predecessor, it still nods to the original’s innovative design—an adaptable interior with versatile seating arrangements. The first Espace, developed by Matra, was a game-changer in the MPV market and inspired a wave of family vehicles in Europe.

Over its production run from 1984 to 1991, the original Espace saw nearly 192,000 units made. Although the name has continued with a sixth-generation SUV launched in 2023, the E-Space Concept aims to bring back the spirit of family motoring as envisioned more than four decades ago. The full reveal will showcase Renault’s commitment to creating functional spaces in the electric era, with potential for production to follow the concept.
