Caterpillar is set to invest approximately $1 billion in North Carolina to enhance its manufacturing capabilities for the Cat Compact business, which includes compact track loaders and telehandlers. The investment will primarily fund the establishment of a new manufacturing facility in Sanford, aimed at increasing production to meet rising customer demand.
Rod Shurman, group president of Caterpillar Construction Industries, expressed that as demand for compact equipment grows, this investment will better cater to customers’ needs. The new facility will employ advanced manufacturing technologies, automation, and integrated logistics.
Caterpillar chose North Carolina for its strong workforce and existing manufacturing expertise. This project is expected to create opportunities for advanced manufacturing careers, focusing on skills such as automation, robotics, and digital manufacturing.
Caterpillar appreciates the support from local government entities as it invests in the future of manufacturing.
