The Space Force is actively seeking several hundred officers and enlisted personnel from other military branches as part of an initiative to prepare for significant growth. The branch plans to more than double its size over the next five years, increasing from approximately 11,000 uniformed members to about 25,000, with much of this expansion anticipated at Peterson and Schriever Space Force bases.
In addition to personnel, the Space Force aims to quintuple its fleet of satellites. Applications for interservice transfers commenced in mid-September, with a spokesperson indicating strong interest from potential candidates.
The Space Force is prioritizing mid-grade officers and enlisted service members who possess space-related experience, particularly in areas such as:
- Space operations
- Cybersecurity
- Intelligence
- Acquisitions
- Engineering
Among enlisted applicants, the focus is on individuals with expertise in:
- Intelligence
- Space systems operations
- Engineering
- Imagery analysis
Applicants should ideally not require retraining and must be prepared to commit to four years of active duty. The recruitment process is open solely to active-duty members from the Air Force, Army, Navy, and Marine Corps; warrant officers are excluded as the Space Force does not have a warrant officer structure. Furthermore, personnel in the National Guard, Reserves, or Coast Guard are also not eligible to transfer.
The application deadline has been extended from October 2 to October 16.
