DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — Officials are ramping up enforcement for an unsanctioned truck event happening this weekend, stirring uncertainty among local business owners who fear the influx of crowds could negatively impact their sales.
To manage the situation, the city will implement a special event zone from 6 a.m. Saturday to 6 a.m. Sunday, where fines will be doubled and vehicles may be impounded.
Mayor Derrick Henry emphasized the importance of public safety and noted that events held without city coordination lead to challenges. He stated that collaboration with event promoters can facilitate traffic control and safety measures, helping to protect residents and visitors alike.
Local business owners are voicing mixed feelings. Bobby Guidotti, owner of Main Street Tattoo, expressed concern that the unsanctioned event could deter customers but believes that coordination could maximize benefits for everyone involved.
Meanwhile, David Ur, owner of Rustic Dough Works, reported a sharp decline in sales this week but remains hopeful that the event could boost foot traffic if handled properly. He is increasing staffing in anticipation of potential customers.
Overall, local business owners seek a cooperative approach between the city and event organizers to ensure a successful weekend for both the community and businesses.
