If You Had Put $1,000 into Broadcom’s 2009 IPO, Here’s Your Current Worth

Broadcom, originally known as Avago Technologies, went public on August 6, 2009, with an IPO price of $1.50 per share. An initial investment of $1,005 would now be valued at approximately $220,000. Including dividends, which started at $0.007 per share quarterly (currently $0.65), total returns are close to $310,000.

As of today, Broadcom boasts a market cap of about $1.7 trillion. Future projections suggest that by 2026, dividends could yield $1,742 annually for investors—74% more than the original investment. Despite its impressive growth, another 310-fold return appears unlikely due to its substantial market position.

Broadcom benefitted from launching post-financial crisis, avoiding severe sell-offs. The significant decline occurred in 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic. Overall, the company’s journey underscores the potential rewards of long-term investments, particularly in dividend stocks. While current investors may not find new wealth, the lessons from Broadcom can help guide future investment decisions.
