Disney has addressed rumors regarding its interest in acquiring Epic Games, the developer behind Fortnite. During an interview with Bloomberg Live, Disney president Dana Walden clarified that, while the company engaged in serious discussions about investing in Epic in the past, it is not currently pursuing an acquisition. Walden emphasized the strength of their existing partnership, pointing to several upcoming collaborations that aim to enhance their relationship.
The collaboration began when Disney acquired a $1.5 billion stake in Epic early in 2024, indicating plans for future crossovers within Fortnite and beyond. This partnership was heralded as a significant move for Disney, with then-CEO Bob Iger expressing excitement about integrating Disney’s brands into Fortnite.
Despite speculation about a potential acquisition, Walden stated that such discussions are not on the agenda at the moment. However, the strong partnership and the promise of multiple upcoming launches suggest that Disney and Epic will continue to explore innovative projects together.
While Disney has yet to officially announce any new project related to this collaboration, the two companies are expected to maintain their close working relationship, with various initiatives already in the pipeline.
