A significant fire broke out in Teele Square, Somerville, Massachusetts, displacing 41 residents and destroying six businesses. The fire occurred near a firehouse, prompting a rapid response from firefighters who noticed the alarm while returning from another call. Somerville Fire Chief Charles Breen reported the fire’s intensity required additional crews to control it, as flames spread rapidly throughout the building.
Though all tenants escaped unharmed and only three firefighters sustained minor injuries, the structure is considered a total loss. Local business owner Conor Brennan lamented the impact on the community, noting that many businesses in the area had been long-standing. He recalled a previous fire in the same location and expressed hope for quicker rebuilding efforts, which Mayor Jake Wilson echoes, emphasizing collaboration with property owners and tenants.
As of now, the cause of the fire remains undetermined, with city officials working to support those affected.
