‘Can We Talk’ Provides Safe Environment for Healing Three Years Post-Lewiston Mass Shooting

Auburn Church Continues Support for Grieving Community After Lewiston Mass Shooting

As the third anniversary of the tragic Lewiston mass shooting approaches, High Street Congregational Church in Auburn remains committed to providing a supportive space for those coping with grief and trauma. Their monthly program, “The Art of Healing, Can We Talk,” is dedicated to individuals impacted by the shooting, which left 18 dead and many injured.

Rev. Debbie Duval, the church pastor, emphasized the importance of this gathering, stating, “It’s just a safe place for people to share and feel held and listened to.” The program encourages participants to share their personal stories of grief, joy, and healing.

Open to anyone, regardless of belief, “Can We Talk” invites individuals aged 18 and older to share a meal and their experiences in a supportive environment. Matthew Peinado, a teacher at Edward Little High School, highlighted how the program helps him process his trauma from the 2023 mass shooting.

As the anniversary approaches, Duval anticipates heightened emotions for many. She encourages those struggling to attend the gathering, noting, “This is a great space for folks to come and share.”

The next meeting is scheduled for October 6 at the church. More information is available on their Facebook page.
