Daimler Buses to install 600kW electric bus chargers at Hamburg facility

Daimler Buses is expanding its public charging infrastructure for electric buses, with plans to open a new site in Hamburg Central Bus Station by 2027. This will be their third charging station, following initiatives in Cologne and Munich.

The new site will feature four initial fast chargers capable of delivering up to 600 kW, with the potential for eight charging points to accommodate a high volume of bus traffic, estimated at over 80,000 movements annually. The charging facilities are designed to serve electric buses from any manufacturer, utilizing 100% renewable energy.

Daimler Buses Solutions will manage the Hamburg site through a lease agreement with the station operator, ZOB Hamburg, and will generate revenue through electricity sales. This initiative is part of Daimler’s strategy to support its Mercedes-Benz eIntouro, the company’s first battery-electric intercity bus.

Chief Executive Steffen Germ emphasized that the charging stations will facilitate the adoption of electric buses for regional travel in Germany, allowing buses to charge efficiently during scheduled stops. This infrastructure aims to improve the viability of electric buses for long-distance routes, promoting economic and operational efficiency for clients.
