A Strong Foundation in Kinesiology
Thompson graduated from STC in 2018 with a degree in Kinesiology, a field that sparked her interest in understanding body movement and performance. “I chose South Texas College because of its affordability and community,” noted Thompson. Smaller class sizes allowed her to forge meaningful relationships that supported her professional growth.
Initially, Thompson envisioned a career helping dancers enhance their strength and endurance. However, becoming a mother shifted her priorities. “I noticed a significant gap in fitness options for pregnant and postpartum women,” she explained. This realization encouraged her to pursue pre and postnatal fitness, combining her passion for motherhood with her educational background.
Bridging the Gap in Supportive Fitness
In 2021, Amanda launched FIT4MOM McAllen, a local franchise aimed at mothers seeking inclusive fitness programs. “I saw that mothers in our community needed more resources, and I felt compelled to bring FIT4MOM here,” she said. This initiative has since provided a welcoming space for moms, where they can work out alongside their babies.

Women at FIT4MOM McAllen have experienced transformative changes, gaining strength and confidence and building a sense of belonging. “Moms often come in feeling overwhelmed, but over time, they rediscover their confidence and improve their health,” Thompson highlighted.
Facing Challenges and Celebrating Success
Starting her own business came with uncertainties, particularly in regards to community engagement. However, Amanda found fulfillment in witnessing mothers support each other. “Seeing moms form connections and embrace the community makes every doubt worth it,” she shared.
Looking ahead, Thompson is determined to enhance offerings at FIT4MOM McAllen, planning to introduce evening and weekend classes to accommodate working mothers and forge community partnerships.
Conclusion: A Community of Support for Mothers
Amanda Thompson’s journey is an inspiring testament to how fitness can foster connections among mothers while promoting health.
