Volvo Trucks is maintaining its commitment to renewable gas as a viable option for heavy hauling, even as battery-electric trucks are gradually being adopted. The Swedish manufacturer recently secured a record order from Reinert Logistics, a German haulage firm, for 500 FH Aero models, with deliveries scheduled to start in 2027. This deal, announced at the IAA Transportation expo in Hanover, follows the successful operation of an initial fleet of 50 gas trucks by Reinert.
The FH Aero trucks are equipped to run on both conventional liquefied natural gas (LNG) and bio-LNG, which is sourced from organic waste. They boast an impressive range of up to 1,000 km on a single tank, enhancing their practicality for long-haul transport. Notably, bio-LNG was reported to account for 98.5% of sales at German LNG stations in 2025, according to the German Gas and Hydrogen Industry Association.
René Reinert, the founder of Reinert Logistics, emphasized the advantages of using locally produced bio-LNG, stating that it aligns perfectly with their operational goals. He praised Volvo Trucks’ service network for gas-powered vehicles as an added benefit.
Jan Hjelmgren, Volvo Trucks’ Head of Product Management, echoed that there is growing demand for gas-powered trucks, citing their technology’s leading performance metrics such as power, torque, and fuel efficiency. He believes this order exemplifies how sustainable transportation can be both practical and cost-effective today.
