New Mural Enhances Mississippi State’s Recovery Lounge
Mississippi State University’s Bulldogs in Recovery (BIR) program has recently unveiled a vibrant mural, created by two senior art majors, Gabby Castleman and Sara Beth Messemore. The mural decorates the BIR lounge, a space dedicated to supporting students in recovery from addictions.
A Vision of Hope
The mural is designed to symbolize themes of recovery, transformation, and resilience. Key elements include:
- Color Purple: Represents recovery.
- Butterflies: Symbolize transformation and hope.
- Dragonflies: Represent personal growth and resilience.
An Innovative Collaboration
Using a virtual reality headset from the College of Architecture, the students meticulously translated their design onto three large walls, enhancing the overall atmosphere of the lounge. BIR Coordinator Trey Griggs commended the mural for its transformative impact, particularly highlighting a corner with the word “hope” prominently displayed, which resonates deeply with individuals on their recovery journey.
Community Inspiration
Castleman expressed their hope that the mural will continue to attract students to the lounge and raise awareness about the support available through the recovery program. Messemore shared their excitement for future projects that allow them to spread their passion for art.
