STARCARES Revamps Court in Thailand to Foster Community Engagement
SUKHOTHAI, Thailand, Sept. 14, 2026 – Following renovations by STARCARES, the sports court at Ban Nam Lat School in Sukhothai has transformed into a vital hub for students and local residents. Initially a single-purpose facility, it now accommodates physical education for students on weekdays and community activities during after-school hours and weekends, aligning with STARCARES’ mission of creating multi-use spaces in rural areas.
The court benefits 62 students from Ban Nam Lat School for their physical education classes. On weekends, it welcomes approximately 600 residents from 180 households, making it a critical recreational area in a region with limited infrastructure.
Many rural schools in Sukhothai also serve as the primary gathering places for villagers, and STARCARES designed the renovation to prioritize students first, transitioning the space into shared use once classes conclude. This concept is already yielding real-life connections, exemplified by children from the community joining in games with school students, fostering a sense of belonging.
As one local mother, Narinya Vejjaporn, expressed, “Seeing my son so happy brought tears to my eyes… As a mother, seeing him feel so included and joyful meant more than I can explain.”
This project underlines STARCARES’ broader commitment to revitalizing shared spaces for prolonged use, similar to initiatives in Vietnam, the Philippines, and Nigeria. Maintenance funding for the courts will be provided every one to two years to maintain their condition and utility.
