Business Resumes Stability as Comstock Board Completes Hiring After Uncertain Period

COMSTOCK TOWNSHIP, Mich. — The Comstock Township Board of Trustees has officially filled all vacant seats with the appointment of three new members, resuming regular business operations.

After a brief period of uncertainty that saw the board unable to function due to four resignations in August, the situation began to stabilize with the appointment of Amber Lawrence as clerk and a temporary member from the county. This left only three board members, below the legal threshold needed for official business.

On Friday, during a special meeting, the board appointed Joe VanBruggen, John Paver, and Kirk Hart, unanimously restoring full membership.

“This marks a significant new chapter for Comstock Township,” stated Board Supervisor Ben Martin. VanBruggen, who took his oath along with Paver, expressed enthusiasm for serving the community, citing his personal connection and commitment to listening to residents.

Paver also shared his perspective, using the metaphor of a shellfish shedding its shell as a reflection of the township’s current challenges and growth opportunities. Hart’s oath will be completed prior to the next meeting, according to Martin.
