Houston, we’ve reached an agreement: NASA should be situated on the Space Coast.

The recent survey from Sachs Media reveals a significant preference among both Florida voters and Americans at large for NASA to be headquartered in Florida. The findings show that 82% of Florida voters choose their state for NASA’s headquarters, while nationally, 40% expressed the same preference, highlighting a strong sentiment toward the state’s role in the space industry.

Florida’s dominance in this opinion extends across various regions of the U.S., including the Northeast and Southeast, indicating that this isn’t just a regional bias. Notably, responses from different political affiliations show bipartisan support for the move, with overwhelming majorities from both Republicans (97%) and Democrats (73%) favoring Florida.

The motivations behind this preference include enhancing Florida’s aerospace sector, attracting high-paying jobs, and bringing NASA leadership closer to major launch operations. However, concerns do exist regarding potential traffic and infrastructure challenges associated with relocating NASA.

Prominent Florida leaders, such as Governor Ron DeSantis, are actively pushing for NASA’s relocation as the agency’s lease in Washington expires in 2028, highlighting the urgency of this issue as Florida strategizes to strengthen its position as a hub for space exploration.
