Himax Technologies Introduces Automotive eDP TDDI for Large Smart Car Screens

Himax Technologies Unveils Groundbreaking eDP TDDI for Automotive Displays

TAINAN, Taiwan, Sept. 8, 2026 – Himax Technologies, Inc. (Nasdaq: HIMX), a prominent fabless semiconductor manufacturer, has introduced a state-of-the-art automotive Touch and Display Driver Integration (TDDI) solution, the HX83196/HX83197 series. This innovative chip seamlessly integrates touch functionality and display driving capabilities with a high-speed eDP interface, meeting the increasing demand for advanced smart car displays with large-format and high-resolution performance.

Key Features of the New eDP TDDI:

  1. Flexible Cascading: Supports configurations for automotive displays without requiring multiple eDP outputs. A single chip can handle displays up to 17 inches with 3K resolution, while a cascaded setup operates displays up to 30 inches with 6K resolution.

  2. High-Resolution Touch Capability: Equipped with 2,560 source and 1,280 touch channels, delivering refresh rates of 60Hz and 90Hz for a smooth visual experience.

  3. Simplified System Architecture: The integration allows elimination of the eDP-to-OLDI bridge and supports a Direct DP architecture, reducing complexity and costs.

  4. Enhanced Data Transmission: Incorporates eDP 1.4 DSC technology that minimizes bit rates and power consumption, while HDR10+ boosts visual quality by enhancing contrast in varied lighting.

  5. On-Panel Ambient Light Sensor Compatibility: Allows for a cleaner display design by enabling ALS to be integrated directly onto the display panel.

Himax has a long-standing presence in the automotive display IC sector, developing advanced solutions in response to evolving market demands. With multiple customer projects already in progress, the HX83196/HX83197 series is poised to shape the future of automotive displays.
