New Automotive Regulatory Standards in China

On April 30, 2026, China introduced a comprehensive update to its automotive and vehicle component regulatory framework with the release of three mandatory national standards. These standards are designed to:
- Enhance vehicle fire detection systems
- Update speedometer performance specifications
- Strengthen steering mechanism protection for drivers
These updates reflect the tightening of safety standards within the automotive sector, aiming to bolster overall vehicle safety and align local compliance with technological advancements.
Key Standards:
- GB 47497-2026: Vehicle fire detection alarms (effective May 1, 2027)
- GB 15082-2026: Speedometers for motor vehicles and motorcycles (replaces the 2008 version, effective July 1, 2027)
- GB 11557-2026: Driver protection from steering mechanism injuries (replaces the 2011 version, effective January 1, 2027)
These standards are overseen by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology and the National Fire Rescue Administration, setting essential compliance benchmarks developed by technical committees and research institutions.
