The Sonoma County Indian Health Project Inc. has leased new office space while its planned health center at the former Kmart site on Cleveland Avenue faces delays. The nonprofit signed a lease for 12,173 square feet at 141 Stony Circle on May 21, with plans to relocate maternity and other services there this summer. The proposed health center at 3771 Cleveland Ave. has been stalled for years, with no formal application submitted to the city.
Previously, in July, the organization announced that its billing and medical records had also moved from its 144 Stony Point Road clinic, although the new location was not disclosed.
City records indicate the organization had meetings in June 2020 regarding a two-story, 70,000-square-foot building at the Kmart site, but no further updates have been logged on the permit portal. Santa Rosa spokesperson Misti Wood confirmed the absence of a formal application.
Financially, the organization has seen substantial growth, with revenue increasing from $21 million in fiscal 2016 to $65 million in fiscal 2025. Established in 1971, it operates its main clinic in Santa Rosa and a satellite clinic in Point Arena, serving multiple tribal groups.
Shawn Johnson of Keegan & Coppin Co. Inc. represented the nonprofit in the recent lease, while Dave Peterson represented the landlord, STG Group.
