Pharr Economic Development Corporation Awards and Initiatives

PHARR, Texas — The Pharr Economic Development Corporation (Pharr EDC) has received a significant acknowledgment by earning a Bronze Excellence Award from the International Economic Development Council (IEDC) for its innovative Pharr Global Business Hub Partnership Initiative. This honor, awarded in the Regional and Cross-Border Partnership category for medium-sized cities, highlights exemplary economic development programs from North America and worldwide.
Pharr EDC President and CEO Victor Perez confirmed this distinction in an interview with the RGG Business Journal and revealed plans for a formal acceptance at the IEDC Annual Conference in New Orleans. “This is a national award that we are recognized for,” Perez stated. “When we compete, we compete against organizations from all over the U.S. and abroad—countries like Australia and India. When you’re selected, it goes a long way because it shows we’re truly unique in what we’re doing here.”
A Binational “One-Stop Shop”
The award-winning Pharr Global Business Hub was established to resolve challenges faced by foreign investors looking to enter the South Texas market. Previously, investors faced barriers that led to informal meetings at local establishments, lacking direction on how to proceed in business ventures in the U.S.
Now, the Hub operates as a binational “one-stop shop” that facilitates connections between Mexican investors and local entities, including banking institutions, legal teams specializing in corporate and immigration law, and academic partners, such as the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV).
The Hub’s influence has increased significantly following a critical agreement with COMCE Nacional, the Mexican Business Council for Foreign Trade, Investment, and Technology, which represents over 4,000 corporate members throughout Mexico. This designation as the regional headquarters for Texas means that members seeking to expand have dedicated resources in Pharr.
“To have an organization of 4,000 members choose our Hub as their home base in the region is huge,” said Perez. “Whenever their members look to expand or meet with investors in Texas, they have open doors right here in Pharr.”
Projects on the Horizon
According to Perez, the recent accolades and strategic collaborations aim to drive investments that will benefit the local economy. While specifics are under wraps due to non-disclosure agreements, several promising projects are nearing completion:

Commercial & Dining Concepts: A unique upscale Mexican restaurant is close to securing land in Pharr. Additionally, a new Mexican Bar & Grill concept, facilitated through COMCE partners, is in the planning stages for its first location in the Rio Grande Valley.

Industrial & Manufacturing: Ongoing negotiations are in place for a new manufacturing venture alongside operations within the semiconductor supply chain sector.
Perez concluded, “We do this for the citizens of Pharr, for our city, and for the entire Valley. Pharr is known for being a ‘first-to-market’ city, and we’re excited for what’s coming next.”
