Kickstart Kafe, located at 148 Bridge St., will be closing its restaurant operations this week, with its last day as a restaurant on Friday, September 4. While the full restaurant will close, the venue will remain available for special events, meetings, and live music concerts.
In a farewell gesture, co-owner Jan Beurskens invites community members to enjoy a free slice of cake and a cup of coffee at the café on Friday from 10 a.m. to noon, thanking staff for their contributions. Free coffee will also be served Thursday and Friday from 7 a.m. to noon, along with food items available for purchase while supplies last.
The decision to close comes as Jan and her husband, Frank, plan to retire and spend more time with family. Frank humorously noted that retiring might be temporary, as they are not inclined to stay idle. While the café will close, the couple will continue managing two AirBnB properties above the restaurant.
Additionally, the Kickstart Dog Social Park that Jan opened in June will remain operational, providing a space for dogs and their handlers every Sunday from 2-4 p.m.
The closing is also attributed to staff pursuing other life goals, including education and new job opportunities. Jan expressed gratitude for their excellent team and the community’s support over the years.
Despite the restaurant’s closure, Kickstart Kafe will continue hosting vibrant community events, including Friday night performances featuring food and drinks, alongside the ongoing availability for private events and meetings.
Jan and Frank Beurskens, who moved to Las Vegas from Buffalo in 2016, fell in love with the area’s warmth and community spirit when they purchased and renovated the former Stella’s Café in 2022.
