Celebration of Star Trek’s 60th Anniversary on Star Trek Day

This year’s Star Trek Day, celebrated on Tuesday, 8 September 2026, is particularly special as it marks the 60th anniversary of the iconic show. Fans are excited to participate in a record-setting event: the attempt to establish the Guinness World Record for the largest simultaneous Vulcan salute at London’s Science Museum.
The Vulcan salute, made famous by Leonard Nimoy’s character, Spock, involves raising one hand with the palm facing forward and the middle and ring fingers parted to form a “V” shape. This gesture is often accompanied by the phrase “Live long and prosper.” Having first appeared in the 1967 episode “Amok Time,” this salute symbolizes the spirit of the show and its fans.
Glyn Morgan, the head of collections at the Science Museum, emphasized the significance of bringing Star Trek fans together for this official record attempt: “Star Trek has connected bold storytelling with big questions about science, technology, and what might be possible in the future.” He added that a previous event, Star Trek Lates, sparked enthusiasm for returning to explore science and storytelling through the franchise.
During Star Trek Day, attendees can also experience the Star Trek Warp Trail, which showcases props and costumes from various series and films, linking the franchise to real-world scientific innovation. This popular trail will be open until Sunday, 13 September.
