Located in Windsor, Ontario, the North America Battery Technology Centre serves as a pivotal facility for Stellantis’s battery development and validation efforts. Covering over 8,600 m², it facilitates testing of battery cell modules and packs for electric and hybrid vehicles, ensuring performance, durability, reliability, and safety under various conditions.
Key Features
- Testing Capacities: The centre boasts 35 walk-in climatic test cells for up to 63 simultaneous pack tests, alongside 11 reach-in test cells supporting up to 132 simultaneous cell tests.
- Equipment Specifications: It can evaluate battery pack charge/discharge capabilities at up to 1,100 kW and cells at 3 kW, operating in extreme conditions from -40°C to 65°C with rapid temperature changes.
- Job Creation: The facility will generate about 55 specialized engineering and technical positions and is part of a broader US$2.6 billion investment to bolster Stellantis’ Canadian presence.
Integration with Global Operations
The North America Battery Technology Centre complements a sister facility in Turin, Italy, sharing similar testing capabilities. This collaboration allows Stellantis to exchange valuable data, enhancing its global engineering network.

The centre will undertake:
- Non-destructive Testing: Validating battery systems, conducting root-cause analyses, and executing engineering investigations to boost quality and performance.
- Internal Development: By reducing dependence on external resources, it aims to protect Stellantis’s intellectual property and enhance engineering agility.
Academic Collaborations
The Battery Technology Centre reinforces Stellantis’s collaboration with the University of Windsor and other Canadian institutions like McMaster University and the University of Waterloo, fostering research in electrification and advanced powertrains. Over 30 years, the ARDC has facilitated over 800 engineering student placements.
