New Horizons for Fitness in NYC: Adam Shane Introduces Yoga Joint Studios
In the bustling world of fitness, innovation and adaptation are crucial. Adam Shane, previously the Chief Development Officer at Barry’s, is making his mark by bringing Yoga Joint studios to New York City. With plans for over 15 locations across the metro area, Shane is on a mission to reshape the local fitness landscape with a unique approach to yoga and wellness.
A New Chapter
Trading in the vibrant red lights of Barry’s for Yoga Joint’s soothing blue, Shane has acquired the New York franchise rights to the Florida-based infrared heated fitness brand. The first two studios are set to debut in fall 2026—one located at 470 Park Ave. South in Midtown Manhattan and another at 267 Kent Ave. in Williamsburg, Brooklyn.
Shane’s broader vision includes expanding to more than 15 locations throughout New York City and neighboring regions, such as Westchester and Long Island, by the year 2030.
Discovering Yoga Joint
Shane first encountered Barry’s as a client in 2011 and quickly fell in love with the invigorating workouts, eventually devoting over 13 years to scaling the brand. His introduction to Yoga Joint came about in 2021 when he sought a fresh fitness regime amidst the ongoing impact of COVID-19.
One of the major attractions of Yoga Joint is its diverse programming. The studio features two primary class formats: Flow, a 60-minute vinyasa yoga session, and FIIT, a 45-minute strength and cardio conditioning class that incorporates free weights and resistance bands—all within an infrared-heated environment designed for participants of all skill levels.
“Whether you’re a beginner or advanced, Yoga Joint welcomes everyone,” Shane notes. “You have the freedom to adjust your weights and challenges as needed.”
Standing Out in a Crowded Market
In a city dominated by Pilates studios, Shane is positioning Yoga Joint as a refreshing alternative. While acknowledging the popularity of Pilates, he believes there’s ample room for diversity within the fitness industry.
“The Pilates boom is impressive, and it’s wonderful to see so many options available,” he remarks. “However, every fitness approach has its place, and Yoga Joint aims to add to that diversity.”
Shane’s timing couldn’t be better. The global yoga and Pilates market is expected to soar from $120 billion in 2025 to an astonishing $521 billion by 2035, signifying a thriving interest in wellness practices.
Immersive Fitness Experience
Yoga Joint not only emphasizes variety in fitness offerings but also creates a captivating atmosphere for its participants. The aesthetically pleasing environments, complete with carefully curated lighting that transforms during workouts, enhance the immersive experience.
“When you enter the studio, you’re met with a dark, inviting atmosphere,” Shane explains. “The energy is high, the music is upbeat, and our instructors are exceptional, reminiscent of what I loved about Barry’s.”
Rapid Expansion Plans
Founded in 2010 by Paige Held in South Florida, Yoga Joint has successfully expanded to 17 locations and is poised for national growth. After nurturing a relationship with the brand’s leadership, Shane finalized the New York franchise deal in late 2024.
Supported by a diverse group of investors in fitness, real estate, and finance, the Park Avenue studio will encompass 6,300 square feet, while the Williamsburg location will cover 4,500 square feet. Following the initial openings, Shane anticipates introducing four to five new studios each subsequent year.
Building Community Bonds
In the lead-up to the studio openings, Yoga Joint in New York will kick off with pop-up events around the city, including a confirmed participation in Bryant Park Yoga this summer.
For Shane, fostering a supportive and community-focused culture is paramount. “Building a team-first environment that prioritizes hospitality and service is vital to our mission,” he states.
Conclusion
As Adam Shane embarks on this exciting venture with Yoga Joint, he embodies the spirit of innovation in the fitness industry. With an inclusive approach and plans for significant expansion, Shane is not only catering to a growing demand for diverse fitness options but also fostering a vibrant community dedicated to health and wellness. Whether you’re a seasoned yogi or a newcomer looking to begin your fitness journey, Yoga Joint promises to offer an engaging and invigorating experience for everyone.
