Expanded Access to Advanced Cancer Imaging at Columbus Community Hospital
Columbus Community Hospital (CCH) will enhance cancer care in the region by opening the Mead Family Cancer Center on November 9. Patients will benefit from in-house positron emission tomography/computed tomography (PET/CT) scans, previously only available through a mobile service once a week.
Benefits of In-House PET/CT Scans
-
Advanced Imaging: The PET/CT scan combines two types of imaging to detect and locate abnormal cellular changes, aiding in cancer detection and treatment planning.
-
Increased Availability: Unlike the mobile unit, the new scanner will offer multiple appointment options weekly, improving patient flexibility and reducing wait times.
-
Enhanced Comfort: The dedicated scanning room at the cancer center is larger and more comfortable than the mobile unit, helping alleviate feelings of claustrophobia during scans.
Latest Technology
CCH’s new Siemens scanner features state-of-the-art technology for quicker diagnoses and thorough monitoring, setting it apart from many similar facilities.
Community Impact
Denise Tomek, CCH’s director of diagnostic imaging, emphasized the importance of this service, stating it allows for more timely care while keeping patients close to their support systems.
Summary of Advantages
- Local Access: Patients have top-tier diagnostic services available close to home.
- Convenience: An expanded schedule gives patients more control over their appointment times.
- Comfortable Environment: A spacious and dedicated room creates a better patient experience.
