The annual Laguna Beach Car Show and Oktoberfest brought together 120 classic car enthusiasts, despite the 100-degree heat on October 4th. Sponsored by the local Rotary Club, the event showcased an array of stunning vehicles, with a 1955 D-Type Jaguar racer and a 1929 Model A Ford taking home the top honors for Best in Show, Mayor’s Choice, and People’s Choice.
Owner Bill Rooklidge shared the Jaguar’s fascinating history, detailing its connection to Hollywood comedy writer Jack Douglas, who raced it in the 1950s. Each car on display was steeped in narrative; for instance, Bob Burdick highlighted his Mayor’s-Prize-winning 1928 Ford Model A coupe, which has been in his family since new.
The event transformed into a journey through automotive history, featuring classics like a 1947 Studebaker Commander and a 1957 Ford Fairlane convertible. Meriam Braselle proudly presented her Studebaker, the first model produced post-World War II, while Suzanne Barber cherished her ’59 Corvette, originally restored by her father.
David Weisbart exhibited a 1956 Jaguar Mark IX and related its unique journey back from England. Monica Lago-Kaytis expressed her joy over her restored 1958 Austin-Healey “Bug Eye” Sprite, which she acquired from a complex restoration.
Wayne Poe proudly showcased his 2004 Corvette C5, emphasizing both its aesthetic and mechanical upgrades. Jud Imhoff, self-declared “Car Afficionado,” praised the community spirit and dedication of classic car owners, encapsulating the event’s essence with his hope to see everyone again next year.
