NASA’s SpaceX Crew-12 Returns to Earth and Schedules a Briefing to Review the Mission

NASA’s SpaceX Crew-12 Mission Safely Returns from ISS

After more than seven months in orbit, NASA’s SpaceX Crew-12 mission splashed down safely in the Pacific Ocean off Los Angeles on Thursday. The crew will hold a news conference at 3:30 p.m. EDT on Thursday, October 15, at NASA’s Johnson Space Center in Houston to discuss their scientific endeavors.

A Successful Mission

NASA Administrator Jared Isaacman praised the crew members—Jessica Meir, Jack Hathaway, Sophie Adenot, and Andrey Fedyaev—for their 237 days in space, during which they traveled over 100 million miles and completed more than 3,792 orbits around Earth. Isaacman highlighted the extensive collaboration among NASA, SpaceX, and international partners that made their safe return possible.

Meet the Crew

  • Jessica Meir (NASA)
  • Jack Hathaway (NASA)
  • Sophie Adenot (ESA)
  • Andrey Fedyaev (Roscosmos)

The crew returned to Earth at 8:34 a.m. PDT, and recovery teams quickly retrieved them. Following standard medical screenings, they will return to NASA’s Johnson Space Center.

Scientific Accomplishments

During their mission, the crew conducted critical research to support human exploration beyond low Earth orbit. Their work included:

  • Stem cell production for potential cell-based therapies.
  • Demonstrating IV fluid generation for future missions.
  • Studying a bacterium responsible for pneumonia and its link to long-term heart damage.
  • Nutrition-focused research and examining blood flow dynamics in microgravity.

Meir completed four spacewalks during this mission, increasing her total to seven and placing her third among women at NASA for most spacewalks.

Media Attendance Information

U.S.-based media wishing to attend the news conference in person must contact the NASA Johnson newsroom by 5 p.m. EDT on Tuesday, October 13. Dial-in details for phone attendance can be requested until 9:30 a.m. on October 15. Media must join at least 15 minutes before the event to ask questions. Notably, Adenot will not attend the news conference as she returns to Europe.
