Michael App, M.D.: A Lifelong Dedication to Medicine and Community
Michael App, M.D., is a prominent figure in Grand Rapids, where he balances multiple roles: operating his own medical practice, leading the largest network of independent physicians in West Michigan, and serving as medical director at Interim Hospice and Home Health Care. Alongside these responsibilities, he is currently pursuing an MBA at Davenport University.
An Impressive Academic Journey
Dr. App holds an impressive array of academic qualifications, including an M.D., a Bachelor of Science in neurobiology, and a Master of Public Health in epidemiology and biostatistics. Upon completing his MBA, he will further enhance his already notable resume.
Growing up in a medical family, App learned the value of community and care from his father, who practiced medicine locally for 45 years. His early experiences include helping in his father’s office, instilling in him a desire to make a meaningful impact.
A Commitment to Long-Term Care
Dr. App finds great fulfillment in his role as a board-certified physician in internal medicine and pediatrics. He cherishes the long-term relationships he forms with his patients, having cared for multiple generations within families.
In 2012, after 15 years in a large group practice, he opened Internal Medicine and Pediatrics of West Michigan, allowing him to provide comprehensive family care.
Leadership and Growth at Answer Health
As president of Answer Health, Dr. App leads a network of over 1,200 healthcare providers. His medical expertise and commitment to strengthening his leadership skills motivated him to pursue an MBA—a goal he set aside earlier in his career for medical school.
Experiencing the value of education and community, Dr. App quickly identified Davenport University as the right place to complete his MBA, drawn by its reputation and the personal connections he made with faculty.
Reciprocating Support and Gratitude
Dr. App appreciates the support he received from Davenport, particularly the Credit for Prior Learning program, which helped him save time and money by translating his extensive work experience into college credit.
He recognizes the effort from staff and faculty, including Mathew Devereaux, who played a key role in his onboarding process. Their commitment embodies the personal touch he values in healthcare.
Looking Forward
One year into the MBA program, Dr. App appreciates the flexibility it offers as a busy professional. He is on track to complete his MBA next year, illustrating that it’s never too late to pursue educational aspirations.
