A Minneapolis police officer fired their weapon after a teenager allegedly committed an armed carjacking and collided with a police squad car on Thursday afternoon.

The incident began when officers were dispatched to West 31st and Pillsbury Avenue due to reports of a person with a gun, later identified as an armed carjacking. The 16-year-old suspect attempted to carjack a driver, who fled the scene, before successfully stealing another vehicle.

Police located the stolen car at Pleasant and Lake. When a squad car attempted to intercept it, the stolen vehicle struck the police car. In the ensuing altercation, an officer discharged their firearm.

The suspect fled but was apprehended shortly after. He was taken to a local hospital for an evaluation.
