Lehigh Valley Convenience Store Operators Confront Deadline for Skill Games

Iftekhar Ansari, who owns a dozen convenience stores under the A1 brand, is facing potential closures due to the Pennsylvania Supreme Court’s ruling that skill game machines are illegal without a state license. These machines, which have provided additional revenue, must be removed by Wednesday to avoid law enforcement action, including seizure.

Many store owners, including Sumeet Singh and Puneet Lodia, express concern over the loss of revenue, especially during slow periods, feeling helpless about the regulatory changes. The Pennsylvania Taverns and Players Association argues that the removal of these machines will adversely affect employees, customers, and local communities.

While some businesses are looking into alternatives, such as arcade or vending machines, they fear they won’t make up for the lost income from skill games. The removal deadline looms, and there are concerns that many may not comply in time, risking significant repercussions.
