Google introduces autonomous AI to Gemini, beginning with enterprises.

Google recently announced its Gemini AI at a Cloud event, introducing a new unified agent capable of performing tasks on behalf of users, including answering questions, scheduling meetings, and managing appointments. This shift moves AI beyond mere conversations into a realm where it can autonomously manage assigned tasks.

CEO Sundar Pichai mentioned that Gemini boasts over 1 billion monthly active users, with 90% of Fortune 100 companies employing Gemini Enterprise solutions. Google plans to initially focus on business applications before offering the service to consumers.

The AI will be able to receive objectives, enabling it to plan and execute tasks using various internal systems while maintaining a secure connection to different platforms. Users can track the agent’s activities in a “tasks inbox,” which shows its decision-making process and interactions. The AI will have its own Workspace account to function as a distinct team member, complete with an email address and knowledge of organizational structure.

Its accessibility will span various platforms including iOS, Android, desktops, and collaborative tools like Google Workspace and Slack. Early partners testing the agent include brands like Shopify and PayPal.

To help manage costs, Google is introducing flexible spending options and real-time spend caps for enterprise AI usage.
