The Wisconsin Science Festival is returning for its 16th year, featuring over 650 events statewide from October 15-25. This year’s theme, “Us,” will explore the intersection of science and art. Originally a three-day event in Madison, the festival now spans 10 days and encompasses more than 55 counties, serving as a model for community engagement through the Science Festival Alliance.

Samantha Mulrooney, director of the festival, emphasized its goal of inspiring curiosity among all ages, highlighting Wisconsin’s innovative spirit. The festival will kick off with Science on the Square on October 15, in collaboration with the Madison Night Market, offering hands-on science activities, food trucks, artisans, and views of the Capitol.

Other events include Science & Soccer Night with Forward Madison FC, DNA testing sessions in Door County, and a magic show featuring illusionist Steve Belliveau. Additionally, participating libraries will provide over 3,000 take-home science kits through the “Science in a Bag” project.

The festival will also showcase art-science collaborations, such as gallery strolls and craft activities. It will join forces with the Wisconsin Book Festival, celebrating its 25th year, for joint events focusing on storytelling and knowledge sharing in the community.
