Le Creuset Launches Star Trek Cookware Into the Stratosphere
In an unexpected collaboration, premium cookware brand Le Creuset has teamed up with Star Trek to create a limited-edition line of kitchenware, featuring designs like the USS Enterprise casserole dish embossed with the iconic phrase “To boldly go where no one has gone before.”
What sets this promotion apart is their innovative marketing stunt: they attached one of these casserole dishes to a high-altitude balloon, launching it to a maximum altitude of 110,095 feet—technically just shy of space, as it falls below the Karman line of 100 kilometers.
While the casserole dish didn’t technically reach outer space, it soared high enough to escape 99.9% of Earth’s atmosphere. The dish was safely returned via parachute, adding to the quirky spectacle.
This project was executed by Sent to Space, a UK-based aerospace company that specializes in high-altitude balloon launches for various creative purposes, from marketing to scientific research.
For fans wanting to join the fun, the Le Creuset Star Trek collection is set to launch soon. And fun fact: this type of casserole dish is called a cocotte in French!
