Joe Manganiello recently opened up about his health struggles, including a severe autoimmune disease, in an interview with People magazine published on October 7. The 49-year-old actor, known for his role in “True Blood” and as the ex-husband of Sofía Vergara, candidly discussed his journey, which included “multiple near-death experiences” and a life-saving organ amputation. His health issues began in the mid-2010s, marked by intense abdominal pain, fevers, rashes, and other debilitating symptoms.
Manganiello explained that the lack of a formal diagnosis led him through a series of medical procedures, including colonoscopies and emergency surgery in 2016. During his recovery, he faced challenges with pain management and substance abuse, forcing him to confront his past habits as he navigated medications and treatments.
His health struggles also took a toll on his marriage with Vergara, leading to their divorce in 2023. He noted that his illness influenced their family planning, as he feared leaving her with a child in the event of his passing.
Now engaged to Caitlin O’Connor, Manganiello remains open to the possibility of children in the future, noting that he feels “reborn” and that life is opening up for him.
