Google has formed a long-term strategic partnership with Constellation Energy to secure nearly 3.6 GW of power from its nuclear fleet within the PJM Interconnection grid. The companies have entered into a 15-year agreement for 2,700 MW of nuclear capacity and a 20-year contract for an additional 890 MW. This partnership aims to upgrade various nuclear plants to meet increasing demand and enhance grid reliability.
Constellation Energy states that the 20-year agreement will facilitate investments in new equipment and technology across 11 of its nuclear units located in Illinois, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey. These upgrades are designed to improve thermal and electrical efficiency, thereby increasing the reliable power supply. The first of these enhancements is anticipated to be operational by 2028.
