FAA: Cessna Business Jet Crashes While Departing from Bedford County Airport; Pilots Injured

UPDATE

BEDFORD COUNTY, Pa. (WJAC) — The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is investigating a crash involving a Cessna Citation business jet that occurred Wednesday morning at Bedford County Airport. The incident was reported shortly before 11 a.m. as the aircraft was departing.

Upon arrival, Bedford Fire Chief Gary Cooper reported the plane was engulfed in flames, and firefighters promptly worked to extinguish the fire. Video footage from the scene indicated significant damage not only to the aircraft but also to a nearby fence on airport property.

There were two individuals on board—the pilot and co-pilot—both of whom sustained non-life-threatening injuries and were transported to Bedford Hospital for treatment. Preliminary findings suggest that the plane skidded off the runway, crossed Belden Drive, and came to rest in a nearby field.

Flight data indicates that the aircraft was scheduled to depart for Baltimore and is owned by Shober’s Equipment LLC, a local power equipment company. Further details from the FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) are anticipated in the coming days.
