Local Student Turns Auto Detailing into a Thriving Business
A local college student, Connor Heagney, has transformed his auto detailing side hustle into a flourishing business, now servicing professional athletes across New England. Heagney, a business management major at Bridgewater State University, started his venture, Heagney Auto Detailing, in high school with just $800.
Business Growth Fueled by Social Media
Initially, Heagney offered his services to friends and family, but soon took to social media to promote his business. He garnered attention by reaching out to Kendrick Bourne, a former New England Patriots player, through TikTok. He was able to detail Bourne’s car in exchange for purchasing a product from his clothing brand. This connection facilitated Heagney’s rise as the “new Patriots car detailer.”
Expanding Clientele
Now, Heagney regularly services vehicles for athletes from teams such as the New England Patriots, Boston Red Sox, and Boston Celtics. He details approximately seven to eight cars every Tuesday, spending around 12 hours on the job. Despite the high-profile clientele, Heagney emphasizes that the key to his success lies in consistently delivering quality work.
Building a Strong Brand
Heagney’s business is fueled by word-of-mouth referrals and organic social media engagement; he does not rely on paid advertising. He has increased his output from detailing around eight cars a week to approximately 35, allowing him to invest in a mobile setup with a generator and water tank.
Future Aspirations
While Heagney is focused on his current business, he also harbors ambitions to start another venture in the future. He currently faces challenges finding employees to support his growing operations, and employs a rigorous training program for his team.
Heagney sums up his passion for his business, stating, “This business is my heart, it’s my soul. And I’ll continue to improve it every single day.”
