Arkansas Children’s Northwest in Springdale has recently completed a significant expansion, investing $82.7 million into the facility. The expansion adds 15 inpatient beds and 50,000 square feet of new space, while also renovating 23,000 square feet. The updated Walker Campus increases access to specialized pediatric healthcare for the local community.
This expansion, which began in 2024, is part of a larger $371 million initiative aimed at boosting bed capacity, transforming surgical approaches, and enhancing clinical spaces for multispecialty care. Overall, the project will introduce over 265,000 square feet of new space along with extensive renovations of more than 170,000 square feet. Additionally, it will increase the number of pediatric-trained doctors and staff, adding 150 doctors and over 400 employees, including nurses, statewide.
Enhancements in the Arkansas Children’s Northwest facility include expanded physical and occupational therapy services, a new infusion center, and a central laboratory, addressing the needs of the rapidly growing region. As Rustin Morse highlighted, the expansion emphasizes the hospital’s commitment to providing exceptional pediatric care closer to home, particularly for children with complex needs.
The expansion offers several health benefits:
– Increased access to specialized care and surgical services.
– Enhanced rehabilitation resources for pediatric therapy.
– Improved diagnostic efficiency with a new central laboratory.
– Advanced capabilities for managing complex pediatric cases locally.
President and CEO Marcy Doderer emphasized the continuous effort to create a healthier future for children by improving care models and ensuring access to expertise within the community.
The project was executed in collaboration with construction and architecture firms while maintaining full hospital operations, showcasing the commitment to the community’s well-being. Arkansas Children’s has evolved from its origins in 1912 as an orphanage, now comprising two major hospitals and a range of supportive health services throughout the state.
