Microsoft is gearing up for major developments surrounding Grand Theft Auto VI, as Xbox CEO Asha Sharma teased an initiative that “no other platform holder is doing.” Reports suggest that Xbox has secured streaming rights for the game, enabling Xbox Cloud Gaming to stream it at launch. However, specifics regarding the duration of the agreement remain unclear.
While Rockstar Games has yet to announce a PC version, the streaming deal is poised to allow Xbox to market Cloud Gaming to PC players who would otherwise require a console. Initially speculated as an exclusive arrangement, Xbox chief strategy officer Matthew Ball clarified that the game will not be streamed exclusively or on PCs, indicating the deal likely covers Xbox consoles only.
The announcement comes alongside Microsoft’s recent changes to Xbox Cloud Gaming, including limitations on streaming hours starting in November. However, a new pay-as-you-go option will also be introduced, allowing players who do not own an Xbox to access the service by purchasing hours, perfectly timed for the release of Grand Theft Auto VI.
Additionally, during the all-hands meeting, Sharma mentioned Project Helix, describing it as a “family of devices” through partnerships, following Microsoft’s collaboration with AMD on future Xbox hardware.
