Wilkes-Barre printing and embroidery business receives zoning approval for expanded location

Lisa Santos Rodriguez Moves Tailored Creationz to a Larger Space

WILKES-BARRE — Lisa Santos Rodriguez was overjoyed when city zoning hearing board members granted her request to relocate her printing and embroidery business to a more spacious address on Carey Avenue.

Excitement for Growth
Rodriguez, 37, who operates in the Miners Mills section of Wilkes-Barre, expressed her happiness following a hearing on Wednesday at City Hall. She received approval for a special exception to move her business, Tailored Creationz, from the basement of the Jewelcor building to a commercial space with 1,000 square feet located at 571 Carey Ave.

“I’m so happy!” she exclaimed after the successful hearing.

Business Expansion
During the hearing, Rodriguez explained to board members that her shop would be open to the public Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., with some flexibility depending on workload. The move to a larger location is necessary due to the significant growth of her business since its start in 2022. The addition of new machinery, which wouldn’t fit in her current basement space, prompted the move.

Rodriguez hopes to be operational at the new building by early October.

A Passion Turned Profession

Rodriguez applied her lifelong passion for painting and design in her business, offering services in DTF (direct to film) printing and custom embroidery. She proudly showcased her “hall of fame” — a collection of embroidered pieces designed for local businesses, which she refers to as her “threaded art.”

Her artistic skills extend beyond apparel to a variety of items such as mugs, magnets, and business signs. Rodriguez states, “Shirts are a great advertisement. It’s basically like a walking billboard.” While most of her clients are local, she has shipped products as far away as Oregon.

Community Focus
Rodriguez is dedicated to supporting her community and fellow business owners, particularly women. She enjoys providing guidance to fellow entrepreneurs, sharing advice on how they can grow their businesses.

Zoning Board Activities

In addition to Rodriguez’s approval, the board allowed Adam Lorts and XT Enterprises to establish a recovery house called RecoverU at 226-228 Barney St., accommodating up to 10 residents.

The board also discussed various other cases, including a proposal for additional apartment units and grocery stores in Wilkes-Barre. They denied several requests, including those for home daycare services and construction alterations, reflecting ongoing developments in local business and residential zones.
