The University of Arizona to welcome numerous science journalists.

The University of Arizona will host ScienceWriters2027, bringing together hundreds of science journalists, authors, editors, and communicators in Tucson next fall. The conference is expected to attract 600 to 800 participants from North America and beyond.

Attendees will discover Tucson’s role as a hub of scientific activity facilitated by the University of Arizona, including its leadership in NASA space missions, space research, and environments promoting nighttime astronomy. The location, with its clear desert air, has fostered advancements in various fields such as space sciences, water resources, optical sciences, and age-related diseases.

Johnny Cruz, the university’s chief communications and marketing officer, highlighted the event as a chance to showcase research and foster connections between journalists and the university’s innovative work.

Participants will have opportunities to explore U of A’s scientific endeavors firsthand, including visits to Biosphere 2, climate research on Tumamoc Hill, the Flandrau Science Center and Planetarium, and the Richard F. Caris Mirror Laboratory, where giant telescope mirrors are crafted.

The conference is organized by the Council for the Advancement of Science Writing and the National Association of Science Writers, with University Marketing and Communications leading the proposal to host the event. Additional details on dates, programming, and collaboration opportunities will be released as planning continues.
