Pets Blessed in Honor of St. Francis of Assisi
On Saturday, October 3, The Episcopal Church of the Mediator in Harbert and Paws for Humanity in Three Oaks held a special Blessing of the Animals to commemorate St. Francis of Assisi, the patron saint of animals and the environment.
Rev. Karen Joy Kelly led the ceremony at the Church of the Mediator, offering a heartfelt prayer that acknowledged humanity’s responsibility towards all living creatures. The prayer emphasized admiration for the beauty and intelligence of animals and called for compassion and wisdom in their treatment.
At Paws for Humanity, Rev. Brian Hastings engaged the attendees, asking them to reflect on the spiritual connection they share with their pets. He expressed that pets remind us of the innocence present in the Garden of Eden and encouraged everyone to embrace the love they feel for their animals as a way to connect with the divine.
The event also celebrated the recent birth of a baby alpaca, adding a joyful note to the day’s festivities.
