Tesla Drivers Can Now Leave Superchargers During Emergencies

Tesla has introduced an “Emergency Drive Away” feature for its vehicles, allowing drivers to disconnect from Superchargers without manually detaching from the charging port. This feature is intended for emergencies only and may cause significant damage to the vehicle and Supercharger, with potential repair costs reaching up to $25,000.

Here are the key details:

  • Usage Restrictions: The feature should only be used in emergencies as per Tesla’s guidelines.
  • Software Requirements: It requires the latest software update and is currently applicable only to U.S. Superchargers.
  • How It Works: Drivers can shift into drive while still connected to a charger. A warning screen will prompt them to confirm the activation of the Emergency Drive Away feature.
  • Potential Risks: Misuse may lead to penalties, and damaging the charging equipment and vehicle is a risk.

This update is not compatible with pre-2021 Model S and Model X vehicles.
