Science Teacher Charged After Allegedly Pulling 7th Grader 20 Feet by the Arm

A Florida middle school teacher, Fada Concepcion, has been arrested after surveillance footage allegedly showed her pulling a seventh-grade student out of a classroom by the arm. The incident, which took place on September 29 at Tuskawilla Middle School in Seminole County, is being treated as child abuse without great bodily harm, a third-degree felony.

According to the reports, Concepcion allegedly grabbed the male student and dragged him approximately 20 feet into a hallway. The student’s parent has stated that he did not consent to the teacher touching his son and wishes to pursue the matter legally. Concepcion, who has been a teacher for nearly three decades, disputes the allegations, claiming she has no recollection of dragging the student and instead intended to escort him out of the room.

Concepcion’s attorney argued that there was no evidence of injury on the student, emphasizing that the criteria for child abuse requires more than just touching. However, a prosecutor contended that the child may have experienced mental injuries due to the encounter.

After appearing in court, Concepcion’s bond was reduced from $5,000 to $1,000, with orders for her to have no contact with the student or return to the school while the investigation is ongoing. Seminole County Public Schools has placed her on administrative leave and is cooperating with law enforcement and the Office of Professional Standards. Concepcion is set to return to court on November 10, but it remains unclear whether she has entered a plea, as the allegations are yet to be proven.
