News 12 | Connecticut | Man Killed, Woman Seriously Hurt in Three-Car Collision in Gravesend

A tragic three-car accident in Gravesend resulted in one man’s death and left a woman in critical condition. The crash occurred around midnight at Ocean Parkway and Avenue S, when an Audi collided with the rear of a Toyota Camry, which then struck a Toyota RAV4 before both cars hit nearby trees.

The driver of the Camry, 62-year-old Yaya Dia, was taken to Maimonides Medical Center but did not survive. His 39-year-old passenger sustained serious neck and back injuries and remains in critical condition. The 25-year-old driver of the RAV4 suffered minor injuries and was treated on-site.

Witness accounts reveal the wreckage scattered across bike lanes and sidewalks, raising safety concerns among local residents. One concerned resident highlighted the frequent reckless driving in the area, calling for increased police presence.

NYPD data indicates several accidents at this intersection this year alone. Following the crash, police reported that the Audi’s driver fled the scene with the vehicle’s license plates.

This incident adds to a troubling trend of serious crashes on Ocean Parkway, prompting advocates to call for street redesigns and increased legislative measures to prevent such occurrences.
