The 77th International Astronautical Congress (IAC), taking place in Belek, Türkiye from October 5-9, 2023, will address significant issues in the space sector, including orbital weapons, AI in space computing, and lunar exploration. Organized by the International Astronautical Federation, this year’s theme is “The World Needs More Space,” with over 10,000 participants expected, from space agency leaders to students.
Key agenda topics include “Geopolitics vs. Innovation,” space governance by regional organizations, and “orbital oversaturation.” NASA will present updates on its Artemis II mission, and discussions will extend to the implications of the US Space Force’s admission of operational weapons in orbit and the burgeoning role of AI in satellite networks.
High-profile attendees include leaders from NASA, ESA, and other national space agencies, alongside over 25 astronauts. The congress aims to provide insight into the future of space exploration, security, and the ethical considerations of activities beyond Earth.
