Voter Registration Drive at Susquehanna University

Students involved in the nonpartisan “Achieve. Lead. Vote!” initiative at Susquehanna University are intensifying their efforts to encourage voter registration ahead of the upcoming Nov. 3 midterm elections. Political science students Sienna Forbes, Noah Cassil, and Waverly Oake-Libow are leading various outreach activities, including events for National Voter Registration Day and Constitution Day.

Professor Rolfe Peterson emphasized the importance of civic engagement in universities, indicating that the initiative reflects the university’s mission of nurturing leadership and service. During Constitution Day, they hosted a table with the theme “Candy for the Constitution,” providing candies and pocket Constitutions to engage students in discussions about their voting rights.

Efforts have included presentations in introductory classes, making the registration process seem accessible and encouraging students to participate in democracy. So far, nearly 100 students have registered to vote this semester.

Susquehanna University received recognition for its voter participation efforts in the 2022 midterm elections and continues to promote active citizenship as the voter registration deadline approaches on Oct. 19.
