Decatur Business Temporarily Closes After Storm Damage
DECATUR, Ala. — A long-standing business in Decatur had to briefly shut down after a storm caused its large sign to crash onto a car.
Owner Lucy Mickey of Francesco’s, which has been a fixture in the community for 16 years, was at home when she received the alarming news. “When they called me, you need to come here. We have an accident,” she recalled. The sign, which spanned the entire roof of the building, toppled and shattered the windshield of a customer’s brand-new car, purchased just a week prior.
Mickey shared photos showing the extent of the damage, describing it as disheartening. “It made two holes in the car. The sign is heavy. To damage a car like that is disappointing,” she said.
Fortunately, no one was injured during the incident. Mickey expressed gratitude for the support from the community, stating, “We have a lot of customers that have called us and asked if we’re okay. Decatur is very friendly.”
Francesco’s plans to reopen on Tuesday after the sign is removed from the parking lot, and business hours will remain unchanged. Mickey appreciates the community’s backing during this unexpected setback.
