Flomaton Welcomes New Bookstore, “The Guilty Librarian”
FLMATON, Ala. – The small town of Flomaton, with a population just over 1,400, is witnessing a transformation in its downtown area, thanks to the passion and vision of local entrepreneurs. This Saturday marked the grand opening of The Guilty Librarian, a new bookstore co-owned by local mother-daughter duo, Chandra Rigby and Tori Walker.
“We wanted to bring business to the town of Flomaton,” said Walker, expressing their commitment to contributing to the town’s growth. For Rigby, opening a bookstore has been a long-held dream. “I love to read, and I’ve passed that love down to my family,” she shared.
Strategically located in downtown Flomaton, surrounded by vacant storefronts, the duo sees potential for revitalization. “We believe this road has a lot to offer,” Rigby stated, confident that their bookstore will add a unique charm to the area.
Emphasizing the role of social media in modern business, Walker noted its importance in drawing visitors to the bookstore. “We’re trying to constantly bring people down here,” she said, highlighting their commitment to the town’s overall development.
The building for The Guilty Librarian was purchased from Melissa Jernigan, who, along with her husband, has been investing in downtown Flomaton. Jernigan recalled initial skepticism from the community about their plans but remains focused on the potential. “With grant money, we can make Flomaton a successful place to be,” she expressed.
Rigby and Walker are actively participating in the town’s revitalization efforts, even securing approval from the Flomaton City Council for a market event akin to the “Palafox Market” in Pensacola, set to occur on Small Business Saturday.
With the dedication of local business owners like Rigby and Walker, Flomaton’s downtown landscape is set for an exciting transformation, aiming to boost both community spirit and local commerce.
